STAR Associate Fellow Award

The STAR Fellow Award aims to recognize and honor renowned or distinguished individuals for their exceptional contributions to research, extension work, or education and recognize and reward innovations, scientific advancements in agriculture and allied fields, leading to significant impacts on the country's agricultural development. It will encourage continued excellence and leadership in agriculture, motivating others to pursue high standards of work in research, extension, and education and strengthen collaboration between academia, research institutions, and practical agriculture, ensuring that advancements reach farmers and other stakeholders effectively.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Notable Contribution: The nominee must have made notable consistent contributions to research, extension work, or education for the development of agriculture or allied fields (like horticulture, forestry, animal husbandry, fisheries, etc.) in the country.
  • Nationality: The award is open to citizens of the country, and can also be awarded to overseas individuals whose contributions have had a meaningful impact on the nation’s agricultural development.
  • Experience: A minimum of 15 years of relevant professional experience in agriculture or allied fields is required, with a track record of achievements.
  • Recognition: The candidate should have demonstrated dedication to improving agriculture, with expectations of continued contributions leading to a potential future STAR Fellow status.
  • Character and Integrity: The nominee should exhibit ethical practices and contribute positively to the field and the community.

Selection Process:

  • Nomination: Nominations can be made by members of the STAR society, academic institutions, research organizations, government bodies, and other relevant stakeholders. Self-nominations are not accepted.
  • Evaluation: A committee of experts in agriculture and allied fields will be formed by the STAR society to evaluate the nominations. The evaluation will be based on:
    1. Contribution Measurable impact in research, innovation, education, or leadership within the agriculture sector, focusing on contributions that may not yet meet the stature of the STAR Fellow Award but show great potential.
    2. Impact on agricultural productivity, sustainability, and rural livelihoods.
    3. Influence on policies, education programs, or extension services.
  • Selection: After the evaluation, the awardee will be chosen through consensus by the committee, with final approval from the STAR society’s leadership.

Frequency:

The STAR Associate Fellow Award will be given annually, ensuring that each year an individual who has made an exceptional contribution is recognized.


Award Presentation:

The award will be presented at the STAR society’s conference or a specially organized event attended by dignitaries, researchers, educators, and stakeholders from the agricultural and relevant sector.



Award Components:

The award recipient will receive a mementos, a citation, and a certificate of recognition.
